WESTERN Province has always been a critical agriculture region that deserves good and durable road infrastructure instead of the rhetoric and lies of constructing international standard airport, Mutotwe Kafwaya has said. Mr Kafwaya, the former Lunte lawmaker has questioned government plans to build an airport in the province, arguing that such a project would be an unnecessary use of public resources.Speaking when he featured on 5FM Radio Zambia, Mr. Kafwaya said there was no justification for spending huge sums of money on airport infrastructure in the province when economic activity and demand for air travel remain limited.“There is no need of wasting money to build an airport in Western Province when the Kuomboka ceremony only happens once a year, and sometimes it does not even take place,” Mr. Kafwaya said.He said that the province does not attract enough activity throughout the year to justify such a large infrastructure investment and questioned what purpose the airport would serve outside the traditional ceremony.“What exactly will people be going to do in Western Province when there is no Kuomboka ceremony? Government must prioritise projects that directly respond to the daily needs of citizens,” Mr. Kafwaya said.Ends.
