Puta, the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance Member of Central Committee says while the opposition would give the UPND government credit where it was due, it would like to see that the welfare of the workers and the general citizenry was one of the priority issues in any economic reforms.
In an interview, Ms Puta said Zambians should not fall for political rhetoric, lies, deceit and propaganda, but must make sure that the ruling UPND was made accountable for its campaign promises it made in 2021.
“As we head towards the August 13 elections, as Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, we would like to remind the UPND that the true measure of any economic progress is not just in production figures or investment inflows, but in how much it improves the livelihoods of workers and general citizenry,” Ms Puta said.
“This is why as Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, we always emphasise that economic and labour sector reforms should seek to prioritise the welfare of workers and the general citizenry or else, the people will always perceive such reforms as mere political rhetoric,” she said.
Ms Puta has also said poverty, hunger, bad governance which includes selective enforcement of the law and dictatorial tendencies have laid a solid ground for Zambians to get united and boot out the UPND from government.
Ms Puta said Zambians should get united and boot out the UPND from government for among other things, worsening poverty and hunger, looting of public and corruption as exposed by the report of former US Ambassador to Zambia Michael Gonzales in his report.
“Unlike the UPND which accused the PF of corruption without proper evidence, but merely aimed at antagonising it against the electorate ahead of the 2021 elections, the US Ambassador to Zambia had empirical evidence of corruption against the UPND government and its leaders,” she said.
She said Zambians should stand up against the UPND government, which abandoned its campaign promises of improving the lives of Zambians, but it has instead plunged the country into worsening poverty and hunger.
