A WOMAN aged 35 of Choma has been arrested by police for living with, and thereby defiling a boy who at the time was below the age of 16.
Southern Province Commanding Officer Moono Namalongo said the woman, whose name has been withheld is suspected to have been sexually exploiting the boy, who is now 17, since November, 2025 and was only rescued on June 16, this year.
Mr Namalongo said in a statement yesterday that the case was reported to Choma Central Police Station on June 16, 2026, at around 13:10 hours by the boy’s 54-year-old father.
He said the complainant alleged that the woman had been cohabiting with his 17-year-old son as husband and wife between November 30, 2025, and June 16, 2026.
“However, the suspect allegedly refused, prompting the matter to be reported to the police,” said Mr. Namalongo.
He said when police officers visited the suspect’s residence, they found that the juvenile had already left the premises and his whereabouts were unknown.
Mr. Namalongo said the woman was apprehended and interviewed by police and during questioning, she stated that the juvenile had initiated the romantic relationship and that she had accepted his proposal.
He said the suspect is being held for the offence of sexual exploitation of a child, contrary to Section 19(a) of the Children’s Code Act No. 12 of 2022, as investigations continue.
