THE Lusaka Magistrates Court has adjourned the matter involving former Zambia Intelligence director general Xavier Chungu to July 8 for mention and possible committal to the High Court.

Chungu appeared before Magistrate Nthandose Chabala for the charge of seditious practice among others.

Chungu who stands charged with the offences of communication of information, seditious practices and publication or disclosure of sensitive information to an unauthorised person remains in custody after the state at the previous hearing objected to his bail application on concerns that he was a threat to national security.

Mr Chabala ordered that since the DPP has not yet communicated the instructions, the matter was adjourned to July 8.

Chungu was arrested and charged with 11 counts of various offences including six cases of seditious practice, alleged to have occurred when he appeared on a podcast aired online.

Mr Chungu, 72, was earlier granted a K50, 000 bail by Lusaka High Court Judge Chibwe Kombe but was rearrested immediately after his release on two fresh charges on seditious practices.
