Nkana on major restructuring to turnaround fortunes

NKANA Football Club has begun a major restructuring drive after surviving relegation in the just-ended MTN Super League season.

 The 13-time champions confirmed the departure of five players as part of their revival plans.

Defender Dieugo Apanane, midfielder Joe Wallace Banda, and striker Idris Mbombo will leave the club following the expiry of their contracts.

 Goalkeeper Patrick Chooma and midfielder Francis Zulu, who were on loan, will return to their parent clubs.

In a statement, Media and Communications Manager Mike Mubanga expressed gratitude to the departing players, saying Nkana “would like to thank all five players for their contribution and service during their time at the club and wishes them the very best in their future undertakings.”

 Mubanga added that further updates on squad preparations will be communicated in due course.

The shake-up comes just days after sponsors Mopani Copper Mines appointed a new executive committee to steer the club forward.

The committee quickly moved to stabilize the technical bench by confirming Elijah Tana as head coach.

 Tana replaces Mwenya Chipepo, whose contract was not renewed.

Nkana’s leadership is now focused on building a competitive squad under Tana’s guidance, with hopes of restoring the club’s dominance in Zambian football.
