Gov’t is neutral on employer, employee labour relations - Jito

GOVERNMENT will continue playing a neutral facilitative role in labour relations to ensure a fair balance between employers and workers and the respect for the country’s labour laws, Jito Kayumba has said.

Mr. Kayumba, Special Assistant and Economic Advisor to President President Hakainde Hichilema would remained committed to promoting alignment across the transport sector so that all stakeholders benefit equitably.

Mr Kayumba said the transport industry was a critical pillar of the economy and relied on effective cooperation among drivers, employers, labour unions and Government.

“The signing of the recognition agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening industrial relations and reducing the need for Government intervention in labour disputes. Government will continue supporting structured dialogue and enhancing relationship management within the sector to foster harmony and productivity,” Mr Kayumba said.

Mr. Kayumba said concerns raised by drivers, including working conditions and the treatment of employees by some operators, had been acknowledged and would be addressed through constructive engagement.

He has reiterated Government’s commitment to promoting safety, fairness and dignity for all workers in the transport industry and urges all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the agreement and contribute to national development. - MILLENNIUM TV.
