Kalaba pledges better roads, industries for Mansa

THE collapse of local manufacturing industry in Mansa and other parts of Luapula Province has deprived citizens from the region of employment opportunities, Harry Kalaba has said.

Addressing a campaign rally in Mansa yesterday, Mr. Kalaba, the Citizens First president has expressed disappointment with the state of the manufacturing industries in the district and has pledged that once he forms government after the August 13 general elections, he would prioritise the revival of industries, improve road infrastructure and strengthen the agricultural sector.

“It is heartbreaking to see that industries which once created jobs for our people have collapsed. We will revive manufacturing because it is key to restoring jobs, stimulating the local economy and giving hope back to the people of Mansa,” Mr. Kalaba said.

He also observed that poor road infrastructure continues to slow down development in the district, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets.

Mr. Kalaba said agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy and pledged to ensure that farmers have timely access to farming inputs to improve productivity.

“Farmers should not receive inputs when the farming season is already underway. We will ensure that agricultural inputs are delivered on time because supporting farmers is essential to increasing production and improving livelihoods,” he said.

He has also pledged to provide social cash transfers on a monthly basis to help vulnerable households cope with the rising cost of living.

Mr. Kalaba also stressed the need to improve access to quality healthcare, education and other essential social services, saying these were critical to accelerating development in the district.

He said the combination of revived industries, improved roads and a stronger agricultural sector would drive economic growth and improve the lives of residents.
