ECL will be buried after August polls – Mundubile

BRIAN Mundubile has disclosed that he and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, have agreed that late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu will only be buried after they win the August 13, 2026 general election.

Speaking before a mammoth campaign rally in Chinsali on Tuesday, Mr Mundubile urged Zambians to vote for the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance, saying the government formed thereof would ensure that former President Lungu is accorded a befitting burial.

“Makebi and I have agreed that we will only bury President Edgar Chagwa Lungu after we win the elections on August 13. We are asking the people of Zambia to vote for us so that we can give him the befitting burial he deserves,” Mr Mundubile said.

He said the late former head of State deserved to be honoured for his service to the country, adding that the Tonse Alliance was committed to ensuring that happened.

“President Edgar Chagwa Lungu must be honoured, and only the Tonse Alliance can give him that honour. Vote for us so that we can bury our former President with dignity,” he said.

Mr Mundubile alleged that the continued delay in burying Mr Lungu had been caused by court proceedings involving the government.

“It is unfortunate that President Lungu has not yet been buried because of the court battles instituted by the government. We want to bring this matter to an end after we win the elections,” Mr Mundubile said.

Mr Mundubile appealed to Zambians to rally behind the Tonse Alliance in the forthcoming general election, saying a victory for the alliance would enable it to fulfil what he described as its commitment to give the late former President a dignified send-off. UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Lusaka Province chairman, Obvious Mwaliteta says the massive turnout at President Hakainde Hichilema’s campaign launch on Sunday has given the ruling party renewed confidence in the province ahead of the August 13 elections.

Mr Mwaliteta says the overwhelming support shown by citizens from different walks of life demonstrates that the UPND remains strong and well-supported in the capital city.

He noted that the peaceful and successful rally reflects the party’s growing momentum as campaigns intensify across the province.

Mr Mwaliteta also praised the calm campaign environment in Lusaka, saying no major incidents of violence have been recorded so far.

He has since urged all political parties to maintain peace, tolerance and unity during the campaign period in the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation.-MILLENIUM TV
