Shamenda denies predicting Mundubile’s defeat

FORMER Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda has dismissed reports alleging that he predicted the defeat of Tonse Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate Brian Mundubile in the August 13 general elections, describing the claims as false and deliberately misleading.

Mr. Shamenda said statements circulating on social media and attributed to UPND media personalities, bloggers and affiliated media platforms had misrepresented his position for political propaganda.

“I wish to state categorically that these claims are false, misleading, and a deliberate misrepresentation of my position,” he said.

He maintained that his position remains unchanged from comments published in The Mast on July 21, 2026, where he stated that he foresees the opposition forming the next government.

“My position remains exactly as stated in The Mast of 21 July 2026, where I made it clear that I foresee the opposition forming the next Government. That position has not changed, and I stand by it,” Mr. Shamenda said.

Mr. Shamenda expressed regret that some individuals and media platforms had chosen to distort his remarks, saying the misinformation was intended to mislead the public.

He disclosed that he is considering taking legal action against those responsible for publishing and circulating what he described as defamatory statements and false attributions regarding his political views.
