PRISON AUTHORITIES PREVENT NYASULU FROM VISITING CHITOTELA, CHILANGWA

VICTOR PM Nyasulu was yesterday denied the right to visit jailed Ronald Chitotela and Nickson Chilangwa at Mukobeko Maximum Prison in Kabwe for what prison authorities called a technical error in his visitation.
Mr Nyasulu, the former Zambia Medicines and other Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) director general said his planned visit to Mukebeko Maximum Prison was unsuccessful as he blocked at the reception.
Mr Nyasulu has however blamed himself for the failure to visit Mr Chitotela and Mr Chilangwa because according to him, he had been prevented because he had committed a technical error.
The failed visit comes as part of what he described as a prison visitation programme targeting comrades whose incarceration he believes is politically motivated.
Mr Nyasulu was on a marathon programme of visiting former Patriotic Front (PF) political prisoners and his journey started with a visitation to Raphael Nakachinda and Joseph Malanji at Chimbokaila Correctional Facility in Lusaka.
“I was greatly encouraged to find both comrades in high spirits, steadfast in faith, and unwavering in their hope for a better Zambia,” Mr Nyasulu said.
He said he was inspired by the optimism displayed by the incarcerated leaders despite their circumstances.
“What encouraged me most was the remarkable optimism displayed by our comrades in Lusaka. Despite their present circumstances, their confidence remains unshaken. They expressed hope and anticipation for victory under the Brian Mundubile–Makebi Zulu (BMMZ8) ticket in exactly two weeks’ time,” he said.
Mr Nyasulu appealed to members and supporters of the alliance to remain peaceful as political activities continue.
“As we continue our democratic campaign, let us remain peaceful, law-abiding and united. Our struggle must always be one of ideas, constitutionalism and the rule of law,” he said.
He further called for prayers for the jailed politicians and for peaceful, credible and democratic elections.
