Nsama stands tall

… as she wins Zambia Ladies golf crown on home course

LUSAKA Golf Club’s Annie Nsama used home course knowledge to announce her arrival on the international stage by winning the 2026 Zambia Ladies Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship at the weekend.

Nsama, who carded 5 over 78 gross, captured the title from Madina Hussein of Tanzania who did not turn up to defend her title at Lusaka Golf Club.

Hussein won the Zambia Ladies Open back to back in 2024 and 2025 in dominant style but did not enter the 2026 tournament due to a tight personal schedule.

With Hussein out of the picture, focus shifted to Uganda’s Peace Kabasweka, one of East Africa’s most decorated golfers, who was enjoying an overnight lead on 76 gross.

Nsama on the other hand was lagging behind on 84 gross, but maintained her focus to stay in touch with the leading pack.

The Zambian put on her armour on Day Two to upstage Kabasweka and set herself on course for a historic victory.

Nsama led by two shots with 18 holes to go - neck to neck with Kabasweka.

Kabasweka went on to close the tournament on 86 gross in the 54 holes tournament and finished third, behind compatriot Mercy Nyanchama who carded 79 gross.
