Govt says SDA Pathfinder inspires discipline, leadership  

COPPERBELT Province Permanent Secretary Lawrence Mwanza says youth development initiatives that promote discipline, leadership and community service are essential to national development, commending the Pathfinder Ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for its contribution to nurturing responsible young citizens.

Speaking during the Pathfinder Fair at Kansenshi Secondary School in Ndola, Mr Mwanza said such initiatives complement the government’s efforts to raise a disciplined, skilled and productive citizenry.

He said the Pathfinder programme equips young people with values and practical life skills through camping, honours, drill exercises, community service, leadership training and spiritual development.

“Through camping, honours, drill exercises, community service, leadership training and spiritual nurturing, the programme equips young people with discipline, responsibility and a spirit of service,” he said.

Mr Mwanza said the government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema and guided by the national vision, appreciates the contribution faith-based organisations make towards youth empowerment.

He noted that the Pathfinder Law promotes values that have remained relevant throughout Zambia’s history.

“Respect, healthy living, compassion, optimism and service to others are the qualities our country requires in its future leaders,” he said.

Mr Mwanza also encouraged stronger collaboration between Government and the church in promoting youth development.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Zambia Conference Region A Coordinator Gerald Sukutu said young people were demonstrating the knowledge and skills they have acquired through the Pathfinder Ministry.

Mr Sukutu said skills such as first aid, livestock rearing and other practical activities help prepare Pathfinders for fairs, camps and other programmes.

“We have been working on projects that will sustain us even as we prepare for upcoming events such as fairs, camps and other programmes,” he said.

And Copperbelt Zambia Conference Youth Director Pastor Best Longwe urged Pathfinders to take the programme seriously and make the most of the learning opportunities it offers.

“Don’t just come for fun and food. Come to learn and acquire skills,” Pastor Longwe said. – ZANIS.
