Eight NRPUP members in Chamboli hospital after being attacked by UPND cadres

MORE than eight members of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) are nursing serious wounds, while another one has been admitted at Chamboli Level One Hospital after suspected UPND cadres attacked them at their homes.

The UPND cadres led by their leaders, who are candidates in the August 13 elections, attacked members of the NRPUP in Luangwa Ward of Wusakile Constituency in Kitwe during the UPND door-to-door campaign.

The attack on members of the NRPUP in Luangwa ward comes after another attack on NRPUP members on Tuesday by suspected UPND cadres at Fire By Fire Church in Chibote Ward where they smashed windscreens of two vehicles, among them a white Ford Ranger registration number ALD 9248.

The UPND cadres also damaged property worth millions of Kwacha at the church as they ran amok calling for the blood of NRPUP Wusakile Constituency Secretary and Wusakile Local government candidate Charles Silomba and others.

By press time, Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi could not comment on the matter, but NRPUP Wusakile Constituency candidate Pavyuma Kalobo confirmed the incident and said the party recorded four casualties after they were attacked by suspected UPND cadres led by their leaders who are also candidates. 

Mr Kalobo said, the four were attacked by the ruling UPND cadres during their Door-to-Door campaign in Luangwa Ward, saying of the four, two were in Malembeka area, one in Siyame, while the other one was admitted to Chamboli Level One Hospital.

He said, apart from the four nursing injuries after being attacked, a phone belonging to one of the NRPUP members had gone missing.
