Chipata-Lundazi Road, chiefs’ palaces our priority projects – Mundubile

BRIAN Mundubile has pledged to make the long-neglected Chipata-Lundazi Road and the construction of chiefs palaces in Lundazi among his administration’s first priority projects when elected President in the August 13 general elections.

Addressing a mass Tonse Pamodzi Alliance campaign rally in Lundazi on Saturday, Mr Mundubile said his administration would focus on improving the lives of ordinary Zambians by investing in infrastructure, agriculture, education and social protection programmes.

Mr Mundubile, the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) leader and presidential candidate said the Chipata-Lundazi Road would receive immediate attention after forming government because of its importance to the economic activities of Eastern Province, while the construction of palaces for chiefs Mphamba, Kapichila and Mwase would also be prioritised.

“Our government will focus on the people because the responsibility of any government is to improve the welfare of its citizens. Government is not a profit-making business organisation but a human-oriented administration with the sole purpose of caring for its citizens while growing the economy,” Mr Mundubile said.

He accused the UPND administration of celebrating increased foreign reserves while many citizens were struggling with the high cost of living.

“They are busy talking about foreign reserves while people are suffering. This is a ‘salt sana’ government that has failed to deliver on its promises,” he said in apparent reference to the ruling party’s slogan.

Mr Mundubile said his government would introduce an agricultural marketing system anchored on aggregators to cushion farmers from losses and ensure they received fair prices for their produce.

He also promised to foster national unity, saying the country had become divided because employment opportunities allegedly favoured people linked to what he described as the ruling party’s “database.”

“We reject tribalism. Zambia is one nation and one people. National unity is the foundation of development. This is the message that our founding President Kenneth Kaunda always preached,” he said.

Mr Mundubile pledged to retain the free education policy but said his government would improve learning standards by reducing class sizes to a maximum of 40 pupils per classroom to improve the teacher-pupil ratio.

He also assured beneficiaries that the Social Cash Transfer programme would continue under his administration.

And Makebi Zulu, the NRPUP presidential running mate has accused President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND of winning power through unfulfilled campaign promises.

Mr Zulu said while the ruling party allegedly relied on promises that had not materialised, the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance would campaign on what he described as truth.
