Zambia in ‘Chachacha’ mood – Mundubile

ZAMBIA is witnessing a “second Chachacha” after which jobs, farming support, mining support and economic revival will follow Brian Mundubile, the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance Presidential candidate has said.

Addressing another mega rally in Mpika, the home town of Michael Sata, Zambia’s fifth President, Mr Mundubile called for a moment of silence in honour of former President Edgar Lungu, whose remains, are still lying in a mortuary after over a year after his death on June 5, 2025.

The Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance presidential candidate said hunger levels had risen sharply in the country and said the UPND regime had failed to deliver on promises made to farmers, youths, mining communities and many ordinary citizens.

He said the delayed completion of the Mpika-Nabwalya-Mfuwe Road was evidence that the region had been neglected by Government.

“The UPND thought governing a country was easy. Government exists to help its citizens and farmers remain the backbone of our economy,” Mr Mundubile said.

He pledged that under a Tonse-Pamodzi administration, farmers would receive farming inputs on time and in adequate quantities.

“Each farmer will receive the eight bags of farming inputs and by the first week of June, the Food Reserve Agency will start purchasing maize from farmers,” the former Mporokoso legislator and lawyer said.

Mr Mundubile also promised to restore dignity to citizens through policies aimed at stimulating economic activity and supporting vulnerable groups.

And Makebi Zulu, his running mate has accused the UPND of governing through promises that had failed to materialise.

“UPND gave Zambians fake promises but God allowed them to govern. God is an equaliser. The question is: what has the UPND done for you?” Mr Zulu asked.

He claimed the government had cancelled infrastructure projects initiated under the Patriotic Front, including hundreds of bridges earmarked for construction across the country.

“Civil servants are struggling, council workers are not being paid and yet government boasts about foreign reserves. Do you want to continue suffering? UPND has failed, so try us, the boys,” Mr Zulu said.

He called for national unity and said Zambia needed liberation from economic hardship.

“We need to liberate Zambia. This is the second Chachacha,” Mr Zulu said.

Former Home Affairs Minister Stephen Kampyongo urged supporters to protect their votes while former Deputy Speaker Mwimba Malama warned voters against making mistakes in next month’s election.

Former Religious Affairs Minister Godfridah Sumaili led prayers in remembrance of former Presidents Michael Sata and Edgar Lungu, describing Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu as leaders capable of steering the country to equitable development.

The rally attracted senior opposition figures including State Counsel Chifumu Banda, Dr Sebastian Kopulande, Munir Zulu, Malozo Sichone and Kampampi Kabaso of Mwansabombwe Constituency.

Mr Kabaso conveyed greetings from Mwata Kazembe and raised concerns over youth unemployment, poor sanitation, road infrastructure and the management of mineral resources in the country.

Opposition leaders also urged voters to remain vigilant during the electoral process and safeguard their ballots after voting on August 13.

“The nation will never be the same after Zambians vote for Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu,” Mr Sichone said.
