CHIEF Mumena of the Kaonde people in Western Province says strong families are essential for raising responsible citizens and driving national development.

The traditional leader said families play a critical role in shaping moral values, promoting integrity, responsibility and respect among members of society.

Speaking during the wedding ceremony for Mr and Mrs Banda in Jesmondine Lusaka, in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Education Permanent Secretary Kelvin Mambwe says strong families are the foundation of prosperous communities and a strong nation.

He noted that the couple’s union marked the beginning of a new family unit with the potential to nurture love, guidance and positive values for future generations.

Chief Mumena urged the newlyweds to uphold love, patience, mutual respect and forgiveness, describing marriage as a lifelong commitment that thrives through support during challenging times.

He further called on families and communities to continue guiding and supporting young couples to promote stable homes and social cohesion.

Chief Mumena said despite growing social challenges, the family remains the primary institution for preserving values, building character and nurturing love.

“Strengthening families ultimately leads to stronger communities and a stronger nation,” he said.
