Muhabi predicts Mundubile-Makebi victory

BRIAN Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu are the best bet for Zambia in the August 13 general election because they possess the character, temperament and leadership qualities required to govern the country that has come under siege under UPND government, Muhabi Lungu has said.

Mr Lungu says the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance had emerged as the country’s strongest opposition movement because it had succeeded in uniting political parties determined to offer Zambians an alternative to the UPND administration.

Speaking yesterday on Radio Christian Voice, Mr Lungu, Zambia’s former deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations said the opposition’s strength lay in its unity, stating that attempts by the ruling party to divide opposition political parties had failed.

“Many of us were convinced that Brian Mundubile was the best way before he filed in his nomination. We knew that the UPND was determined to scatter the opposition, but they failed to do that,” he said.

He said Mr Mundubile possessed the right temperament to serve as Republican President.

“Brian Mundubile will make a good President because he has the right character and temperament. We compared and contrasted the available candidates and concluded that he was the better candidate we could rally behind to govern this nation,” Mr Lungu said.

He said his organisation found common ground with Mr Mundubile on governance, constitutional reforms and economic policies.

“We believe the Constitution should be reformed so that we can move into the Fourth Republic. We also looked at the economic front and agreed with Mr Mundubile on issues of governance. There were many areas where our thinking was aligned,” Mr Lungu said.

He said both Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu had been presenting policy positions anchored on a written manifesto rather than making empty political promises.

“Mr Mundubile and Mr Zulu are not speaking from guesswork. They are speaking from an informed position based on a written document, which is their manifesto,” Mr Lungu said.

He predicted victory for the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance in the August 13 general election, stating that the prevailing economic hardships had left many Zambians yearning for change.

“Mundubile will win the August 13 general election because poverty has become endemic in Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema will fail,” Mr Lungu said.

He said political leaders should focus on addressing the high cost of living instead of engaging in political rhetoric.

“Politics has to be brought down to a realistic level because many citizens are gasping under the high cost of living,” Mr Lungu said.

Mr Lungu also alleged that while the UPND had employed underhand methods to sideline political opponents, the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance had remained committed to unity and fair political competition.
