LCC completes paving of Heart of Jesus Road

THE Lusaka City Council has completed the paving of Heart of Jesus Road in Libala, Kabwata Constituency, as part of its ongoing infrastructure development programme.

LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the upgraded road will reduce travel time, lower vehicle maintenance costs for motorists, and create a safer environment for pedestrians and schoolchildren.

Ms Mwamba added that it will also improve access to key service points and stimulate small business growth along the corridor, contributing to improved livelihoods for residents.

“The project was implemented using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and involved the installation of pavers to improve road safety, reduce dust, and enhance access for residents, motorists, pedestrians, schools, and businesses in the area,” she said in a statement.

Ms. Mwamba said the construction of drainage systems in the constituency has continued to improve storm water management and extend the lifespan of road infrastructure.

Construction ramps up on strategic Mufulira–Mokambo road

WORKS on the upgrading of the Mufulira–Mokambo Road to bituminous standard are progressing steadily, with construction activities expected to intensify by the end of this month.

Road Development Agency Copperbelt Roads Engineer Bernard Zulu said the concessionaire has fully mobilised equipment and personnel and is preparing to scale up works on the project.

Mr Zulu was speaking during a media tour of the project, where he described the Mufulira–Mokambo Road as a strategic transport corridor linking Zambia to the Democratic Republic of Congo through the Mokambo Border Post.

He said once completed, the road is expected to facilitate regional trade, improve the movement of goods and people, and boost economic activities in the province and surrounding areas.

The project is being implemented under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement following the signing of a concession agreement between the government and Jasworld Port Limited.

The initiative involves the rehabilitation and upgrading of the 25-kilometre road as well as improvements to border infrastructure.

The concession agreement runs for 22 years, comprising two years of construction and 20 years of operation and maintenance. - MILLENNIUM TV.
