PAUL Kabuswe says reports that he has been arrested in connection with copper theft are not true and those making the assertions are attempting to derail his campaign programme knowing that he is a stronger candidate.
And the Zambia Police yesterday dismissed reports that Mr Kabuswe, along with former Copperbelt Minister Elisha Matambo had been arrested were being detained at some unknown police station in Mufulira.
Mr Kabuswe the immediate past Mines Minister said in an interview that the allegations were malicious and meant to tarnish his name and detract him from his campaigns and to whip the emotions of voters to revolt against him.
He said his focus was on elections and to campaign and has vowed that no propaganda fashioned against him shall work because the people of Chililabombwe had made their decision to re-elect him.
“They have smelt defeat and now they want to destabilise strong people. For them to start lying about me now, probably, they have felt my weight on the ground. So, they want to create a certain narrative where people may lose confidence in me,” Mr Kabuswe said.
Mr Kabuswe said some people had hatched a scheme to tarnish his name so that they could have an easy sail in the parliamentary contest but that the wild allegations against him were not going to work.
