Don’t trust, vote for opposition – Nalumango

ZAMBIANS should not just vote on the basis of euphoria but should scrutinise the manifestos of presidential candidates because some opposition leaders do not have the interests of the people at heart, Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has said.

Ms Nalumango has questioned how certain presidential aspirants could undermine and mislead citizens by dismissing the achievements made by the UPND government in laying a strong economic foundation.

Ms Nalumango said it was unfortunate that those who presided over the country’s economic decline were now attempting to convince Zambians that they had repented and would want to return to power, cautioning that their messages to the electorate suggested they would only cause more damage.

“The people of Zambia must take time to examine what each presidential candidate is offering because some of these people do not have the interests of citizens at heart,” she said.

She argued that opposition aspirants lacked a clear message and urged voters not to be swayed by campaign music and entertainment.

Speaking on the Let the People Talk programme on Radio Phoenix in Lusaka, Ms. Nalumango highlighted the UPND’s focus over the past four years on restoring economic stability, restructuring the country’s debt and creating conditions for sustainable growth.

She said that while the country had recorded progress through increased foreign reserves and reduced inflation, the full benefits of reforms would soon begin to trickle down to citizens.

Ms Nalumango said the current single-digit inflation rate was a reflection of improved stability, though global fuel prices and external factors continue to influence the cost of goods.

“There is no way Zambians will allow the people that destroyed this country before to bounce back. Aikona man. We have worked hard to rebuild the economy and protect the future of this nation,” she said.
