Bangwe laments neglect of Serenje’s Mafwasa Health Facility

BANGWE Naviley Chisenga, the Citizens First (CF) parliamentary candidate for Nkundalila Constituency, has expressed concern over the poor state of the Mafwasa health facility in Kanona Ward of Serenje, saying residents have been neglected for years.
Mr. Bangwe said the condition of the facility was unacceptable and sympathised with the community, accusing past leaders of abandoning the area and failing to deliver meaningful development.
“This health facility is not fit for the people of Mafwasa. For years, communities here have only received tujili jilidevelopment while leaders disappear for five years and leave residents to suffer,” Mr Bangwe said.
He pledged that once elected in the August 13 polls, he would work with the community to improve the facility by mobilizing residents to mould bricks while he provides building materials for construction.
“I cannot do it now because of the elections, but once voted into office in August, I will provide cement and iron sheets so together we can build a decent health structure for this community,” Mr. Chisenga said.
Mr. Chisenga also stressed the need for climate-smart health infrastructure, noting that rising temperatures were affecting the storage of medicines by accelerating chemical degradation and reducing drug effectiveness.
He said expectant mothers in the area face serious challenges accessing distant health facilities, with some forced to give birth at home because of poor road conditions and long distances, exposing them to life-threatening complications.
Mr. Chisenga further highlighted several projects he has personally funded over the last ten years, including classroom blocks, boreholes, staff houses, and clinic infrastructure in Serenje District.
He urged residents to vote for CF candidates on August 13, including councilor candidate Leonard Kanchepa, Council Chairperson candidate Brighton Yamba, himself as Member of Parliament, and party president Harry Kalaba using the party’s tree symbol.
