…Edwin Lifwekelo, the Patriotic Front deputy secretary general believes Zambians are resolved to renew the mandate of President Hichilema for the second term on the basis of integrity, economic achievements as well as high standards of leadership
PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema is headed for a landslide victory in the August general elections because he has delivered on most of the promises apart from improving the governance of the country, Edwin Lifwekelo has projected.
Mr Lifwekelo says President Hichilema has remained Zambia’s best choice among all the presidential candidates challenging the head of State because the head of State has demonstrated true captainship in the governance of the country.
Mr Lifwekelo, the Miles Sampa Patriotic Front (PF) faction deputy secretary general has expressed confidence that President Hichilema will secure victory in this year’s presidential election, citing his performance, integrity, consistency and leadership record.
In a statement yesterday, Mr Lifwekelo said the opposition had failed to present clear policy alternatives and was instead relying on criticism of government and campaign rhetoric.
Lifwekelo argued that President Hichilema had restored economic stability and international confidence following years of economic challenges, highlighting Zambia’s debt restructuring efforts, improved foreign reserves and policy consistency under the UPND administration.
He said President Hichilema and the UPND’s first five year term had largely focused on repairing and rebuilding the country’s economic foundations and mending the damage that had been created by the PF’s ten year rule.
Mr Lifwekeo is urging Zambians to reject what he described as “selfish politicians masquerading as saviours,” warning that a change in leadership could reverse the gains made so far.
“Zambians should not fall prey to some selfish politicians whose only aim is come into government and continue with their misrule and damaging what the UPND has been able to achieve. The UPND has worked hard to turn round the country’s economic fortunes with a record US$6.5 billion reserves. So, President Hichilema remains the best choice for Zambia and he is going to win the August general election with ease,” Mr Lifwekelo said.
Mr Lifwekelo has maintained that President Hichilema was now positioned to focus on job creation, reducing the cost of living and translating national stability into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
“Zambians should not make a mistake of voting for the opposition because all the economic gains recorded under President Hichilema and the UPNND in the last five years will be washed away by wanton looting. Zambia is going forward and should not revert to the dark days of economic plunder,” he said.
He said despite President Hichilema being the most abused leader, the head of State had continued to show spirit of love towards his political competitors, proving beyond doubt that he had a big heart.
“Don’t trust the opposition. Zambian s must say no to selfish politicians masquerading as saviours. We refuse to be taken back to those barbaric years were cadres reign caused fear and intimidation to our people. Zambians are now free under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema. Zambia is now stable and respected by our regional and international friends,” Mr Lifwekelo said.
