Black Apple released, rearrested over Chawama violence

POLICE has rearrested Peter Kashala and Joel “Black Apple” Nyondo and slapped them with additional charges in relation to the case of violent clashes that took place in Lusaka’s Chawama Township recently.
This is in a matter in which 14 suspects were arrested on various charges of violence and theft, and trespass after clashes that erupted after the memorial service in honour of the late president Edgar Chagwa Lungu in Chawama.
Kashala and Nyondo were rearrested immediately after they appeared in court for mention before Magistrate Mbuyuwana Sinvula after they were granted bail last week. Police are yet to issue a statement.
During the court session, the State had made an application to amend the charge sheet pursuant to section 213 of the CPC which the defence did not object to.
In the first count, the suspects were charged with criminal trespass when they entered the UPND premises which all the accused denied.
In the second count, they were charged with criminal trespass when they unlawfully entered the UNPD ward 3 premises and allegedly stole a laptop, while in the third count, they were charged with malicious damage to property belonging to the UNPD ward as well as a oint charge of damage to tables and chairs at the same premises.
They all denied the charge.
In the fourth count, they have been slapped with criminal trespass when they entered the UPND ward 3 premises to intimidate Godfrey Chitalu, while in the fifth count, they are facing criminal trespass which they also denied.
In the sixth count, Happy Siuluta has been charged with assault on a police officer, Constable Lanston Lungu which he denied.
The matter came up before Magistrate Simvula who adjourned the case to July 13 and 15 for commencement of trial.
The suspects include Yowani Shanzi, Seven Sikonde, Peter Kashala, Thomas Mvula, RobertC Chishanina, Peter Mwaba, Ricky Chimbawilo, Rickson Phiri, Paul Chileshe, Arnold Siuluta, Andrew Simukoko, Charles Nyambe and Joel Nyondo.
